The flexibility of bolted adjustable cantilever arms, our most popular design, makes cantilever racking systems simpler as a variety of different sized products can be stored safely and securely.

Pallet Live Racking

Pallet Live Racking

Spaceway has years of experience in providing Pallet Live systems for the storage of pallets, guaranteeing the FIFO (First-in-First Out) principle, dynamic pallet live provides extremely high volumes of storage within a given area.

Pallet Live Racking

How it works

Pallets are loaded into specific lanes on either a full width or twin track roller system depending on the weight and quality of the pallet. When a pallet is removed from the pick face, the next pallet automatically rolls into position and replenishment stock can be loaded into the other end of the lane. This means stock rotation is automatic with minimal fork lift truck movement to handle the flow of goods. pallet-live-illustration

Where it can be used

Pallet Live is often used in Warehousing and Distribution to store batches of the same product, (without the handling difficulties of Drive-In racking) In the food and beverage markets, the FIFO operation is particularly important.

Pallet live is also common in manufacturing areas for storage of raw materials. Good examples of this are, bulk food, metal processing and packaging materials.

Two pallet deep storage for case picking under pallet racking, ideal for cutting down on replenishment times and reducing travel distances. This can also be used under our Carton Live system, providing a total system for any product size.

Pallet Live Features

  •     Storage according to the FIFO-principle – goods stored first are taken out first – allows easy control of sell-by dates and production batches
  •     Efficient preparation of dispatch at the loading dock
  •     Significant reduction of travel times
  •     Good overview of all items on stock
  •     Increased productivity due to separate loading and picking aisles
  •     Increases in efficiency of up to 60 % over conventional racking
  •     Customer specific solutions – tested with your original storage units
  •     Automated loading and/or retrieval possible

The system can be designed to store wooden, metal or plastic pallets up to 1500kgs in weight. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in more detail

Apart from allowing good volume utilisation, FIFO-based pallet live storage solutions also provide economic advantages. By grouping together all the pallets which make a complete lorry load, it is possible to reduce both lorry waiting time as well as travel time for in-house transport. The increase in efficiency over conventional racking can be up to 60%.

Multi-Tier Document Storage Racking

Multi-Tier Document Storage Solutions

One of the most common storage solutions for document storage is to use standard high bay longspan or pallet racking with timber decking and integral walkways giving you the operator full access to any location at anytime. Depending on the height available depicts how many walkways can be incorporated.

Multi-Tier Document Storage Racking

Mobile Shelving Systems

Mobile shelving is designed to provide efficient storage and retrieval. Whilst maximising the use of the floor space for storage, it will also give excellent accessibility to items stored. This high density storage system can more than double the storage capacity of conventional static shelving or simply free up valuable floor space.

How the system works

Our mobile shelving systems are the most effective way of saving space, as it eliminates the need for several access aisles. Because the shelving moves along floor tracks, the space for only one aisle is needed. When an item is required the particular shelving bay is identified and an adjacent aisle is created by moving the mobile units apart, mobile shelving is opened and closed by either hand operated pull handles, hand wheel driven mechanical systems or electrically operated using small electric motors with push button control.

Security for your storage

Additional benefits of this system include the efficient location of items and security – mobile units can be closed and locked together to prevent unauthorised access.

Roller racking or mobile racking provides much more efficient space utilisation compared to static shelving or conventional filing solutions such as cabinets and cupboards. As well as saving space, mobile storage systems are ideal where sensitive or expensive items are stored because the shelving can be closed up and locked to restrict access.

To compliment any high density storage project, Spaceway also provide a wide range of static shelving systems designed for office, archive, library and industrial applications.

Archivist Sector & Storage Systems BS5454

BS 5454, ‘Recommendations for the storage and exhibition of archival documents’ is a British Standard for the preservation of archival material. Among other things, it specifies temperature and humidity ranges for document storage, shelving schemes, and materials for document container.

Who this applies to

Archivists, curators and museum technicians acquire and preserve important documents and other valuable items for permanent storage or display. You may work for a museum, college or university or another institution that requires storage systems to help preserve important records.

Your role may require you to describe, catalog, analyse, exhibit, and maintain valuable objects and collections for the benefit of researchers and the public. These documents and collections may include works of art, transcripts of meetings, coins and stamps, living and preserved plants and animals, and historic objects, buildings, and sites.

Understanding your requirements

Spaceway understands these requirements and is able to supply, deliver and install a range of storage products to assist your endeavors. All our shelving systems comply with BS5454 and if required, can be supplied as mobile units thereby making the archiving a high density storage system to ensure the items are not only secure but are also easily accessible.

BS 5454 Static Shelving

BS 5454 – Static Shelving Recommendations

Requirements for SB5454 Static Shelving

  • Shelves should possess sufficient load bearing strength for items to be stored
  • Whether the shelving is static or mobile, it is important that the mass and distribution of the load is considered when designing the archive system.
  • Shelf materials should not emit harmful emissions
  • The shelving system should allow sufficient air to be circulated around items being stored
  • Shelves should be versatile and adjustable to allow for the varying sizes and items in the collection
  • There should be no sharp edges on the shelf
  • The shelf clips should not obstruct the withdrawal of documents or items stored
  • Items should be stored upright and inboard of the outer edge of the shelf.

What we offer

We offer a choice of shelving systems, each with their own particular benefits. All systems have the same attention to safety, quality in manufacture, stability, load bearing strength and versatility. All of our document shelving systems conform to BS5454 standards.

BS 5454 Static Shelving

BS-5454 Mobile Shelving

BS 5454 – Mobile Shelving Recommendations

Requirements of BS5454 Mobile Shelving

  • A site visit from the manufacturer is essential to assess floor loading requirements and advise on the most suitable storage system
  • The mobile system should be installed onto tracks which are leveled to support the mobile bases
  • There should be a minimum gap of 25mm between runs to help air circulation
  • The smooth movement of bases will ensure items cannot slide or fall off shelves
  • Security locking can be incorporated to provide security for a closed mobile system. This will prevent un-authorised movement and enhance user safety
  • It is important that the operation of all mobile systems can be undertaken with one hand by operating a geared manual assisted drive system
  • The length of the mobile base will be limited by the imposed load on the base
  • Mobile systems with a height to depth ratio of between 5:1 and 7.5:1 should be fitted with anti-tip devices. Heights in excess of these measurements require bespoke designs to ensure stability of the units
  • All operators should be fully trained before using the equipment
  • The cladding of spines at the rear of every 6th run of shelving assists in controlling the spread of fire
  • It is recommended that gangways should not be less than 1100mm wide
  • Aisles should not be less than 750mm wide

What we offer

By using a shelving or space efficient mobile system – ergonomically designed and tailored to specific needs – documents, publications, archives, manuscripts, or digital data can be retrieved quickly and easily and returned for safe keeping. Mesh Decking

Racking and Shelving Accessories

We are able to offer a comprehensive range of accessories to compliment our range of Pallet Racking and Shelving systems

Mesh Decking

Anti Collapse Mesh

The Anti-Collapse System represents a simple yet cost effective method of avoiding many accidents in the storage and handling of pallets in and on racking systems.
When anti-collapse mesh is fitted to the rear of a pallet rack it prevents goods from falling out and causing injury to personnel or damage to goods. Today, anti-collapse mesh is used in all types of warehouses from the small manually-operated warehouse to the fully-automated crane installations. The anti-collapse mesh system is based around six standard panels that can be adapted to suit practically all modern racking systems. The panels are attached to the racking uprights using brackets and then bolted together to give the desired width and height. A choice of two mesh sizes lets you combine safety with economy. You can also cut the mesh panels to achieve an optimal fit.

Carton Live Shelving

As well as providing solutions to all of your storage and workshop problems, Spaceway is a specialist in analysing and suggesting improvements in the way you pick your products.

Providing Solutions

A common theme throughout many of these solutions is bringing the product to the picker. This results in shorter picking routes, greater picking accuracy and faster throughput.

The principle is simple, why build miles of shelving, with repeated products elongating your picking route? Instead, using carton live to store those repeated products behind each other and cut down drastically on the time spent walking to locate and pick.

These systems are not only the preserve of large multi-national corporations, some of our smaller customers have seen huge benefits from installing small scale versions, using the same principles.

Why choose Carton Live Shelving?

One example of this is retro-fitting carton live shelving into existing pallet racking. It is a great solution for improving on the traditional pallet based distribution warehouse, and is very cost effective.

In the example shown here, the picker has 25 different products available to pick in one bay of 2.7 m wide pallet racking, with plenty of stock behind ready to roll forward to replace the front location.

Compare this to the picking capacity of the usual two pallets on the floor, with maybe a single shelf above!

In a typical four bay double entry run, you could achieve 100 picking lanes, compared to 16 pallets on the floor and maybe 20 products above.

Incorporate push-back pallet racking above, and you can even segregate your pickers from the fork lift activity on the other side of the rack, improving safety at the same time!

This system also offers guaranteed FIFO (first in, first out) picking, ideal for date sensitive or batch controlled products.

We are one of the few UK distributors to design and construct a Picking Tunnel, using pallet live overhead with carton live below to segregate picking activity and maximise on space utilisation:

We can incorporate conveyors or specialist picking trolleys to really help speed up your picking process.

Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking

By allowing fork lift trucks to operate in aisles of up to half the width required in conventional adjustable beam pallet racking, narrow aisle racking solutions make excellent use of floor space and maximises the height at which goods can be stacked. Using specialised lift trucks in either ‘articulated’ or ‘man-down’ or ‘man-up’ variants, narrow aisle racking is precision designed for safe, efficient load handling within the tight confines of these space-efficient aisles.

Improving Efficiency

Articulated trucks work in aisle of as little as 1750mm without having the need for any guidance. Aisles of less than that are fitted with guidance rails or wires at floor level, these specialist ‘man up’ or ‘man down’ trucks are precisely guided into position, thereby improving safety, whilst minimising the incidence of accidental damage to racking and improving the speed and accuracy of load handling.Speed of operation is good with the use of standard forklift trucks driving into the lanes to pick and place pallets. Speed can be further increased by the provision of lead-in rails and guidance rails within the lanes. narrowaisle

Double Deep Pallet Racking

Double deep racking is created by placing two double sided runs together. Pallets are stored two deep and are accessed using special trucks with pantograph or telescopic forks.

We not only offer the full range of racking systems but we also supply a wide range of products to complete any individual turnkey project, which include: shelving systems, mezzanine floors, partitioning , conveyors, warehouse identification, barriers and much more.

Additional Options

We also supply a comprehensive range of barrier rail and upright protectors, as well as a vast range of racking accessories, which include: steel shelf panels, timber decking, pallet support bars, decking support bars, column guards and pallet skids.

To compliment your warehouse racking and help identify your stored pallets, we are able to supply a range of warehouse labelling and identification products. These include: magnetic and self adhesive label holders and ticket holders, run and aisle markers and load signs to name just a few.

For the protection from falling goods and collapsed pallets we offer a range of anti-collapse mesh. This locates on to the rear of the racking and protects personnel working below.

Drive in Pallet Racking

Drive-In Pallet Racking

Drive-in pallet racking is a good solution if storage capacity is a prime requirement for your warehouse.

Drive in Pallet Racking

Maximising Your Space

Eliminating aisles and lanes produces a higher storage density at the expense of selectivity. The first pallet into a lane will be the last out. However, in many applications pallets are received and despatched in batches so this is not a disadvantage. Each pallet is supported so damage from crushing is eliminated.

Speed of operation is good with the use of standard forklift trucks driving into the lanes to pick and place pallets. Speed can be further increased by the provision of lead-in rails and guidance rails within the lanes.

Mobile Storage Solutions

Mobile Document Storage Solutions

If space is limited then mobile shelving is the solution for you, utilising the floor space nearly 50% again more efficiently you can store many files in a smaller space. Ideal if you are in an office environment where space is premium or whether you have a warehouse and want to utilise the space to a maximum.

Mobile Storage Solutions

Mobile Pallet Racking

Motorised mobile racks give maximum utilisation of the warehouse space whilst allowing 100% access to the pallets.

The superstructure is fixed onto electrically powered mobile bases, which move on rails embedded in the floor. The system allows the operator to open the aisle required with a single command.

This solution allows usage of up to 95% of the warehouse space and is increasingly relevant in the drive for lower warehouse cost.

It can be used to store many types of palletized unit loads – boxes, drums, sacks etc. Alternatively rack beams can be decked out to form shelving for high density “archive” storage.

Features such as remote or computer control make mobile racking virtual conventional racking for the FLT driver

Applications

Particularly suitable for use in cold stores, high rental premises, palletised consumer goods and food products

Features

  •     Up to 85% floor space utilisation.
  •     Each pallet supported.
  •     First-in last-out.
  •     High throughput speeds.
  •     Uses conventional handling equipment.
Push Back Racking Image

Push-Back Racking

Spaceway have years of experience in providing Push Back systems for the storage of pallets. Working on a first-in, last-out basis, LIFO, dynamic push back racking provides extremely high volumes of storage within a given area. Ideally suited for long term bulk storage, cold stores and marshalling areas.

Our dynamic push back pallet racking system allows up to 50% more stock in any given storage area. It is a cost effective system that is an alternative to drive-n racking and has the additional benefit that all locations can be loaded or emptied without moving adjacent pallets.

Push Back Racking Image

We have two push back systems; one being a cart system and the other a full width roller bed, this ensures we can meet any requirements.

How it works

Utilising floor space effectively, dynamic push back is one of the most space and time efficient means of pallet storage available. Pallets are loaded in sequence onto either wheeled carriers of differing heights or full width rollers and are pushed back along inclined lanes to fully utilise the depth of the racking. Pallets can be stored up to six deep and when a load is retrieved the remaining pallets roll forward into position at the picking face. push-back-illustration

Applications

The applications are varied, but push back racking can be used in the following ways:

  • To collate loads ready for dispatch, for example in marshalling areas or distribution hubs.
  • In freezer and cold stores where a single picking aisle maximises the available space.
  • Above picking aisle to store buffer stock, this is useful when segregating pickers from fork lift activity.

Features:

  • Space-saving storage according to the LIFO principle
  • Particularly efficient for 2 pallet deep storage and short side on handling
  • Reduced lane incline makes this solution ideal for low building heights
  • Optimum utilisation of the available warehouse height
  • Constant availability of pallets at the picking side
  • Optimum adaptation to all types of pallet skids or feet
  • System also accepts pallets with bad travel characteristics

Apart from allowing good volume utilisation, FILO-based push back storage solutions also provide economic advantages. By grouping together all the pallets which make a complete lorry load, it is possible to reduce both lorry waiting time as well as travel time for in-house transport. The increase in efficiency over conventional racking can be up to 60%.

Multi-Tier Pallet Racking

Multi-Tier Pallet Racking and Longspan Systems are the optimum storage solution to make the most efficient use of available space and maximise the full potential of your storage area.

Designed to ensure the correct balance between storage capacity and operational efficiency, the system can be configured to accommodate a wide range of product types, utilising the full height of the storage facility. multi-tier1

Uses for Multi-Tier Racking

With integral walkways, stairs, safety rails and any number of shelf positions, these raised storage structures can be used as finished goods or component stores and also for order picking, where powered or gravity Conveyors can be incorporated to move the selected goods swiftly through and on to dispatch. These multi-tier systems are also ideal for archive and document storage.

It is ideal for situations where floor space is at a premium or there is good building height available. This is because it utilises this space that under normal conditions can’t be brought into use. The multi-tier pallet racking systems can effectively double the amount of storage capacity of a floor area

Drive Through Pallet Racking

Drive-Through Pallet Racking

Drive-Through Pallet Racking is a good solution if storage capacity is a prime requirement for your warehouse. Similar to Drive-In except you have access from both sides and can drive through the system.

How the shelving is laid out

Eliminating aisles and lanes produces a higher storage density at the expense of selectivity. The first pallet into a lane will be the last out. However, in many applications pallets are received and despatched in batches so this is not a disadvantage. Each pallet is supported so damage from crushing is eliminated.

Speed of operation is good with the use of standard forklift trucks driving into the lanes to pick and place pallets. Speed can be further increased by the provision of lead-in rails and guidance rails within the lanes.

Office Mezzanine Floors

Office Mezzanine Floors

For many years, Spaceway have been recognised as leaders in the business of providing additional or new office space using their office mezzanine floors systems to form the basis of the design of high quality mezzanine office solutions. It is even possible to have second and third floors of mezzanine office floors space if you have enough headroom in your building.

Office Mezzanine Floors

More than often the Spaceway design and build approach to this type of solution proves to be much more cost effective and quicker to build than acquiring new office space or opting for a traditional build.

Design and Practicality

The mezzanine office floors structure is designed with additional strengthening to provide a very stiff and robust structure which will reduce ‘floor bounce’ and easily support open plan office spaces or a divided up partitioned office space. Meeting rooms and boardroom can also be installed on the mezzanine floor to your specific requirements, along with stairs and passenger lifts to provide safe and easy access between the mezzanine floor levels.

The project is then fitted out with office partitioning, suspended ceilings, doors, glazing, decorators, carpet fitters, plumbing, electrics and air conditioning aspects all being coordinated by the onsite Spaceway team to ensure the project is finished on time and to budget.

Spaceway offer the complete project managed solution making sure that the entire installation is built to comply with the latest building regulations requirements and will even apply for the approvals on their clients behalf advising them throughout th e whole process.

Warehouse & Storage Mezzanine Floors

Warehouse storage mezzanine floors designs for a warehouse area use should be well lit, have good access and adequate means of escape in case of fire.

Warehouse Storage Mezzanine

Accessibility and Efficiency

Access for goods to first floor can be provided by a simple pallet safety gate for your fork lift truck to lift pallets to first floor or automated conveyors, simple mezzanine lifts and full goods lifts, whatever the materials or product you want to shift between floors there is a solution to meet your budget.

Spaceway specialise in the design and build of racking and shelving on and under mezzanine floors so you can maximise the space efficiency of your warehouse operation and get the very best return on your investment possible.

Health and Safety

The mezzanine floor staircase design for fire escape and access can be specified as either a standard industrial steel part ‘K’ design staircase or if required as a Part ‘M’ Building Regulations staircase so to meet the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations.

Depending on travel distances and mezzanine floor design some staircases may require fire enclosures and the underside of the mezzanine floor may require fire protection.

Usually if the new mezzanine floor area exceeds 50% of the original floor area the mezzanine structure will need to be fire protected. Fire escape staircases should lead directly to an external fire escape door or protected route out of the building. Fire alarms and smoke detection are required along with emergency and exit lighting to the underside and in the void space above the mezzanine floor.

Spaceway offer professional free and friendly advice regarding the design of mezzanine floors so they comply with the latest building and fire regulations.
